An urban hip hop party – H&M presents the ACE TEE x H&M capsule collection

H&M has teamed up with artist Ace Tee to create a new collection, characterised by an urban street style. The collection will be available from 7th September 2017 at hm.com.

Inspired by her personal style, the collection pays homage to the fashion and light-heartedness of the 90´s: streetwear fashion that is feminine and cool at the same time. A colour palette of black and white is combined with bright orange and vibrant yellow. Band t-shirts and track pants are paired with a fitted wrap top and a short kimono. A tight body, leggings and a sporty top in camouflage print create an urban look. A short wrap skirt and matching jacket fit the 90’s double denim look. A fan scarf, colorful sunglasses, choker and socks are the perfect accessories to complete the cool looks.

“Working together with H&M was such a great experience for me. I love this collection as it reminds me of my idols and the 90´s. There is something for everyone”,

says Ace Tee about the collection.

Ace Tee gained an international reputation a short time after her song вЂ˜Bist du down’ became viral. Ace TeeВґs voice and music carry the easy and cool vibe of the 90`s. With her collection that is being sold online worldwide she follows her vision of a global movement of community.

“I am deeply convinced that music and fashion can connect people beyond nationality, gender and age. I am happy if I can achieve the same feeling with my collection”, says Ace Tee.

Ace Tee drops collection with H&M

Throwback vibes, vibrant must-haves and distinct details – Ace Tee x H&M is very much like the rising R’n’B star herself.

6 September 2017

Ace Tee’s breakout single Bist Du Down was somewhat of an unlikely international success. For one thing, the lyrics were in German. And the sound was far from the chart-topping trap tunes: Bist Du Down was a smooth, laid-back ’90s R’n’B retro flirt.

But it was not only the music that had the internet going wild with Ace Tee, a.k.a. Tarin Wilda Schröder. The video to Bist Du Down, with over 2 million views on YouTube, is a style lesson in perfectly executed retro-cool-yet-hyper-modern streetwear looks.

”With her music and her dress, the mesmerizing Ace Tee is officially one to watch this year,” wrote Vogue.com.

H&M did, however, a lot more than just stand by and watch. Instead they invited Ace Tee to design a collection with the brand. A collection that reflects the best of Ace Tee’s personal style: zipped crop tops, vivid colours and camo prints, body suits, hoodies and track pants.

The collection launches globally on hm.com on 7 September, and in selected stores in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Netherlands.

H&M Magazine caught up with Ace Tee to learn more about the collaboration.

To me, everything about the collection feels emotional and special.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE PIECES IN THE COLLECTION?

”I love everything about it. The whole process was such a fantastic experience. When I look at the different styles, I remember working on the collection in Stockholm with the amazing H&M team. To me, everything about the collection feels emotional and special. If I had to choose one style, I would pick the… No, wait, I can’t! I love them all.”

HOW DOES THE COLLECTION REFLECT YOUR PERSONAL ENERGY AND STYLE?

”This is all me. I want everybody to know that I was really involved in creating this collection. This isn’t something H&M designed and where I only said yes or no. We took my ideas and tried to get the best out of them, using all the experience the nice people at H&M have. The collection reflects all of me… all of us.”

TELL US ABOUT YOUR DEFINING STYLE MOMENTS.

”I believe they are still ahead of me. But of course – my first ones were in front of the TV, watching MTV and the outfits of the rap and R’n’B stars.”

WHO ARE YOUR STYLE ICONS FROM THE ’90S/EARLY ’00S?

”Missy Elliott, Da Brat, Left Eye.”

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?

”I try to not think that much about the future. I hope I can do the stuff that I love as long as I can, and that I can support my family. I will just try to become the best person I can be.”

Chance the Rapper, The Weeknd and Zara Larsson have previously partnered with the Swedish retailer for their respective fashion campaigns.

After dropping the visual for her song "Bist Du Down?" ("Are You Down?" in English), Hamburg, Germany-raised artist Ace Tee is making waves thanks to her smooth vocals, lively dancing, and eclectic fashion taste. “My style is me; it’s young, fresh and clean in a retro way. I like baggy staples from the 90s as well as the elegant pieces,” Ace Tee (né Tarin Wilda) tells Billboard during an exclusive interview. Before the 23-year-old joins Future on the UK leg of his Future Hendrxx tour, Billboard Style exclusively previews the singer’s H&M collection, which is filled with an array of throwback hip-hop fashion staples.

Pieces range from an orange camo print zippered crop top (pricing is still TBD), which Wilda rocks with a pair of black elastic waist sport-stripe track pants. To finish off her effortless and chic ensemble, she threw on a classic dark wash denim jacket, boasting plenty of white stitching and zippered cuffs draped over her shoulders.

Get to know Wilda's old school swagger, the root of her passion for the '90s and more in this week's New Face, Fresh Style column.

What role does fashion play in representing who you are as an artist?

A huge role. The music video for “Bist Du Down?” got a lot of hype because of the fashion, so, I know it’s a big part, and that’s funny because we (rapper Kwam.E) were easy with it. Of course, we thought about what we were going to wear, but it was not the biggest part of the video.

When you dropped that music video, the fashion and sound were both influenced by the ‘90s. What is it about that decade's style that appeals to you?

I think, right now everybody kind of looks the same. In the ‘90s you had more subculture, and you could express to it. There were the ravers, the hip-hop freaks, the metalheads and I really like that you could express yourself and people could kind of guess what you were into.

What trends from that decade are you are you happy to see return in today's fashion scene?

That’s a tough one. I like that the hairstyles are coming back. I have the feeling that in the ‘90s, hair in the urban culture was more a statement than it is now. Also, the baggy look is my favorite.

How did growing up in Germany influence your fashion sensibility?

I think I was always a kid of the world. Germany nor any other country has anything to do with it. From African style (her mother is from Ghana) to hip-hop to high-end. My influence was (TLC and Da Brat) music videos, my parents, and friends.

What are your off-duty wardrobe staples? What about during performances?

On a day-to-day basis, I’m going to rock a jumper, jeans sneakers, nothing too fancy. During the performances, we always try to make something special, but it`s always different. I talk to my girls (dancers) who have different styles, about which pieces they want to wear, and then we pick my outfit to complement it.

Speaking of performances, what’s your favorite aspect of touring?

Well, I like to be with my team. It’s also really nice to travel and meet new people. Performing is kind of strange because no one really knows our songs, but we receive so much love right now (from media, brands, and fans). Meeting fans is still an unbelievable feeling.

The H&M x Ace Tee collection will be available in select stores in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Netherlands along with an online exclusive for the US starting September 7th.

The ‘Bist du Down?’ singer serves as the face for the collaboration. With key inspirations from Ace Tee’s personal style, the collection taps into the femininity of street style. Giving heavy 90s vibes, the mega brand manages to channel a modern version of the time frame.

With the key designs elements of each piece, the collections seems to encompass a place in all of our closets. Solid blacks and whites as the primary colors featured, but we also see splashes of vibrant orange and yellow. The circulation of matching denim jacket and skirt sets, camouflage separates, graphic band tees and skin tight bodysuits adds to the evolution of today’s street style. In addition, the collection offers fitted caps, colorful sunglasses, a choker and branded socks.

“I am deeply convinced that music and fashion can connect people beyond nationality, gender and age. I am happy if I can achieve the same feeling with my collection”, says Ace Tee.

The collection is set to release on September 7th through H&M’s website. Considering the average selling rate of their capsule collections, this won’t be available for long. With fans of collection contributors impatiently waiting in front of their Macbooks, capsule collections normally sell out in just a few hours. As a result, only the truest fans receive the product. Especially relevant, Ace Tee gains the opportunity to be placed on a larger platform. Furthermore, this gives onlookers an opportunity to get to know her and understand her contribution through music. Seems like a win for both the mega brand and this budding musical talent.
