Hard Rock Cafe can be found in Budapest, in Prague, in Amsterdam, in Madrid and most other important European cities. But, no Hard Rock Cafe can be found in Vienna so far. What a tragedy. Facebook groups have been made requesting Hard Rock Cafe to come to Vienna, but so far nothing has happened. Some rumors are though spreading around telling that Hard Rock Cafe might open in December 2012 in Vienna. Let us hope, and meanwhile go grab some food in another American restaurant in Vienna!

Hard Rock Cafe in Amsterdam

When you come upon the Hard Rock Café you cannot help to notice their motto, “Love All, Serve All, Save the World.” These words have been with this corporate restaurant since its birth and are common practice among its staff.

In terms of ‘Love All,’ all are welcome! And with Amsterdam being such an international mecca, this makes it sound rather welcoming. Unfortunately if you come from a walk of life with a tight budget, this is not the best option for you. It is fair warning that with popularity comes unpopular pricing. You can be satisfied to know that although the pictures look delicious, the actual plates leave something to be desired, that can easily be found in the plethora of options Amsterdam gives.

There are times when paying for the service and location are worth it though, and indeed the ‘Serve All’ rings true. The Hard Rock Café staff is friendly, attentive and gives great service and recommendations. There is a comfortableness brought to the table with each waiter that allows you to feel free to ask the most simple of questions.

The ‘Save the World’ comes in more at the corporate level with all of Hard Rock Cafes diverse philanthropies. But if you happen to be a Rock ‘n’ Roll junkie, it may also apply to you. Funneling in live music from the Paradiso, and hosting a variety of events reveals this cafes sensibility to the Rock ‘n’ Roll life. Every third Friday of the month there is a time for collectors to trade their pins. And throughout the summer Thursday nights host Djs and Fridays offer a unique canal boat tour.

Seating options for such experiences range from sitting on the waterfront terrace, outside watching the hustle and bustle of the square, to sitting inside amongst the Rock ‘n’ Roll memorabilia. Which ever way you’ll have it, just remember to keep it Rockin.’

Amsterdam cafes and bars

Amsterdam offers a limitless supply of restaurants, cafes and bars, somewhere around 1500! The words, bar and cafe are usually used interchangeably. The distinction is mostly seen in the title or layout of a place. Every street side, corner, canal, nook and cranny has something to offer your taste buds and mood. The spectrum begins with the traditional and relaxed brown cafes and ranges to the lively and crowded bars.

The Dutch word that embodies the unique experience of coziness, or a comfortable, relaxing time, is 'Gezelligheid'. It is this concept that each cafe or bar tries to express in its own customized way. While some cater to the artist’s soul with live music or exhibitions, others appeal to the romantic with lovely views and special decor. Still others satisfy the needs of the sportive drinkers, with a wide selection of beers, bar games and ‘borrel hapjes’ (snacks). With going out for a coffee, beer or Dutch gin being an almost daily routine, the locals keep the example of how to enjoy the city alive.

After deciding what mood or taste you seek, you need to also consider which area to find it in. Wherever you end up, you are not far from something that suits your needs. There is generally a more local feel in the west of Amsterdam and more night life in the heart of the city. The average hours are from 11.00 to 01.00 and if you find yourself in Leidseplein or Rembrandtplein, the hours typically go a little longer, especially Friday or Saturday nights.

When it comes to service, you may be surprised to find a standard approach of relaxation as well. With the catch of an eye or raise of a finger, there will be someone to take your order. Otherwise, you are left to enjoy your time. Depending on the night, bars will keep a running total that you can settle upon departure. On average, if you are sitting outside, you will be asked to pay on the spot. In terms of drinking, it is traditional practice that if in a group, one person fits the bill for a round, and likewise the next round is on the next person to order. And one last thing before beginning your adventure… when asking for your total, try to remember to ask for ‘the check please’ and not ‘the bill.’ This will keep the communication a bit more clear. Nestled in the Max Euweplein, near to Leidseplein, you will find a taste of the American quality customer service with the European twist of relaxation at your own pace. 't Arendsnest, Dutch Beer Cafe

Situated a few steps from the Red Light District in the Jordaan, 't Arendsnest is strictly a Dutch beer bar. Owned by one of the 4 Beer specialists in Holland, Peter van der Arend, gives his nest his family name.

What′s a "Verlängerter" - Cafes of Salzburg

After the Turkish army was defeated during the second siege of Vienna in the 17th century, the union of Austrian and Polish troops plundered the abandoned tents. Among other oriental valuables they found trunks of black beans with a bitter taste. The dark brew that the Turks prepared from them soon caused sensation among Viennese aristocrats.

The first Western coffeehouses were founded soon afterwards and Vienna, Venice and Warsaw became hubs of the developing coffee culture. Back then, Salzburg was still an independent principality, but hey - it was the hippest Baroque place in Europe, so if the Viennese had coffee, Salzburg needed some, too.

In 1703 Salzburg′s first Cafe opened - it was Tomaselli, back then in the Goldgasse, from 1760 onwards at the Alter Markt Square. By flattering measures it is Austria′s oldest Cafe and therefore, the oldest in the Western World (what a claim - don't tell any historians). Some people say, that the most Viennese Cafe′s are in fact all in Salzburg. These people are generally not Viennese.

However, it is definitely the case that much of the Cafe traditions that Austria is famous for have become diluted among chains and bistros in Vienna. On the other hand, many of the "classy" Cafes in Salzburg still maintain their pastry bars, waiters in dinner jackets and holders for newspapers, just like they have done for hundreds of years. Every tourist in Austria should have gone to a Cafe at least once to make a visit complete. In Salzburg, there are several good ones to choose from.

Cafe Tomaselli

Founded in 1703, the Tomaselli on Alter Markt Square is the T-Rex in the Jurassic Park of Caffeine. The man himself, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, had coffee there and so did generations of local and international artists such as Max Reinhardt, Michael Haydn or Hugo von Hoffmannsthal. The classy interiors are worth a visit and so is the coffee.

Just around the corner of the Tomaselli in the Brodgasse, the Fürst headquarter is the site where Mozart′s balls were immortalised in chocolate for the first time in 1890. Today, a small exhibition underlines that here and only here you can buy the ORIGINAL Mozartballs. Chocolatier Paul Fürst was awarded a gold medal for his invention and today his Cafe proliferates like Starbucks in the US and opens branches all over Salzburg. Definitely a go-er!

Cafe Niemetz

This one is slightly hidden just behind the horse well next to the Festival Hall. It is a very traditional cafe and due to its proximity to the Festival Hall, a favourite hangout for musicians and singers. Be prepared to have a cup of coffee with half of the Vienna Philharmoniker orchestra!

Cafe Sacher

This slightly snobbish Cafe at the Hotel Sacher Salzburg used to be called "Österreichischer Hof" ("Austrian Court"), but several years ago the directors found that international guests would be unable to pronounce that and therefore be more likely to end up with competitors. So "Sacher Salzburg" was born, as it happened to be owned by the same people as the famous Hotel Sacher in Vienna. The bonus: you can buy an obscenely overpriced piece of REAL Sacher tart there.

Cafe Bazar

Whilst Cafe Niemetz has always benefited from the musicians at the festival hall, the Bazar draws the crowds from the Landestheater Theatre and other stages nearby - actors and guests alike. You will also find journalists and writers, especially in the mornings, before the tourists arrive.

Cafe Demel

Face the statue of Mozart on the Mozart Square whilst having a cup of Kleiner Brauner. Its central location and seating that extends to the outside make the former Cafe Glockenspiel one of the most popular Cafes of Salzburg.

Cafe Shakespeare

And now for something completely different - the Shakespeare at St. Andrä Church on the Mirabellplatz Square is grungy, non-traditional and arty. Good food and changing exhibitions of local, contemporary art make the Shakespeare one of the favourite hangouts among students. More a bistro than a cafe, but yet a good place.

So finally…what is a "Verlängerter"? Well, try to find out yourself by going to one of the mentioned coffeehouses. If you like coffee, you won′t be disappointed!

For the past 20 years, Kid's has been (and still is) a home for live music. National and international acts rock our stage every friday and most sundays. The weekly Jam Club sessions draw a large crowd, with up-and-coming blues talent and established artists sharing the stage every Wednesday. Saturday nights, there's the Rock 'n' Roll Dance Night, with over 60 years of rock music - you're sure to hear your favorite songs.

Suka madu? Kafe yang menyediakan makanan dan minuman berbahan dasar madu, jelas sudah biasa. Namun bagaimana dengan konsep heksagonal rumah lebah?

Selain unik, pastinya membuat kita betah nongkrong. Yap, perkenalkan Beezy Kaffee. Sesuai namanya, kafe ini memang serupa rumah lebah raksasa. Tapi tenang aja, di sana nggak ada satupun lebah, kok!

Interior kayu warna coklat membuat kafe ini terasa hangat, family-friends orientated, dan tentunya minimalis. Kursi-kursi pun terbuat dari jalinan rotan, menciptakan sebuah kesan ringan . Nah, bagi penikmat alunan lagu, ada sebuah sudut yang menyajikan panggung kecil untuk live music atau acara lain.

Bosan dengan suasana dalam ruangan? Beezy Kaffee juga menyediakan teras dan bagian belakang untuk Anda yang gemar dengan suasana outdoor. Tatanan outdoor yang apik ini membuat kita serasa sedang pesta kebun, lho.

Anyway, makanan dan minuman yang disajikan oleh Beezy Kaffee ini berkonsep western. Jadi, Anda bisa menikmati pasta les japonaises, mushroom soup, nachos, fish n chips, dory aglio glio, dan juga beezy chicken steak lezat, dengan harga terjangkau.

Eits, tapi kopi yang disuguhkan, terbuat dari campuran lima biji kopi lokal lho! Hah, tapi kok, bercita rasa internasional ya? Jelas, karena kan, kopi luar, bijinya dari Indonesia.
