Tassimo

Script error The Tassimo Hot Beverage System is a consumer coffee machine that prepares one-cup servings of espresso, regular coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and various other coffee drinks, notably those including milk such as latte or cappuccino. It was first introduced in France in 2004 and is now also available in Switzerland, Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, Canada and Austria. The machines were developed by Kraft Foods Inc.. Originally they were manufactured by Saeco International Group S.p.A. and distributed by Braun, and new versions are now being manufactured by Bosch.

All machines operate with the Tassimo-labeled coffee pod, called T-Discs. The beverages range in price from $0.31 to $1.12 per drink depending on the product.

In 2006, Kraft took a $245 million non-cash pre-tax asset impairment charge related to lower utilization of existing manufacturing capacity. In addition, Kraft anticipates cash expenditures of approximately $3 million for the decommissioning of idle production lines.

In 2008, P&G/Braun announced they were getting out of the home appliance product line [Sōrs rīkwest] , including Tassimo. The new machines are being manufactured by Bosch. At the same time, in August 2008, Kraft announced double-digit growth for the second quarter in a row for its Tassimo coffee T-Disc sales.

Current Machines Edit

Currently Tassimo have 3 models of single cup coffee makers to choose from. They all take only the T-Discs (Tassimo coffee pods). The three different models are the TASSIMO Intermediate, the TASSIMO Suprema (which comes with Red or Silver highlights) and lastly the TASSIMO Premium which comes in 'Twilight Titanium'.

In Canada, the Models are the T20, T45 (in 4 side colour panels) and the T65 - which includes an LCD multilingual display and an LED light over the dispenser to illuminate the cup.

All machines have similar features, however the Intermediate and Suprema models are not suitable for use above altitudes of 6,500 feet.

Technology Edit

The system utilizes proprietary beverage pods called Tassimo discs (T-Discs), which are produced and distributed by Kraft. Each has a bar code printed on its label. Once inserted, the Tassimo machine reads the bar code to calculate the amount of water, brewing time, and temperature for the specific beverage. The brewing process takes between 30–60 seconds. Discs containing milk use UHT milk, not powdered milk.

Beverages Edit

The following beverages are currently available for Tassimo († = internet orders only):

Here's another design from Kim featuring imaginative use of Kaffe's fabrics.

The Starter Fabric Pack: A few of the fabrics in the original quilt have been discontinued, so we included as many of the original fabrics as we could and, with Kim's guidance, augmented them with new Kaffe fabrics. We have bundled Kaffe's fabric in enough variety to do most of the applique and narrow borders. We encourage you to add your scraps to our fabric pack to add to the variety. The fabric pack does not include the background fabrics or pattern.

The Background: The original Flower Basket Medallions used a single background fabric. We suggest using one of Kaffe's Spots or Aboriginal Dots fabrics for the background. We recommend 7 1/2 yards of fabric for the complete background.

The Pattern: The pattern for the entire quilt is available in a single package. It is printed in 1:1 scale. There is no need to enlarge the pattern.

We have appliqué needles and silk thread in a wide range of colors are available HERE.

Flower Basket Medallion Starter Fabric Pack

This pack contains approximately 15 yards of fabric. The finished quilt is approximately 84" x 84".

The fabric pack does not include the background fabric or the paper pattern.

Community Q&A

  • It isn't "good," but it probably isn't that bad either. Just try to keep it to one cup. Caffeine is addictive and with any addictive substance it's easy to start consuming more and more. Don't have caffeine in the late afternoon/evening, and try to quit if you find you're not getting adequate sleep.
  • Some people can drink instant coffee, provided the water is not allowed to reach boiling point; stop the kettle just before the water starts bubbling or even at a lower temperature, this is an art more than it's a science because it depends on ambient temperature, humidity and barometric pressure. This is to try not to destroy the fragile aromatic molecules that give Coffee its pleasant smell and taste. Some people go a bit further and put a certain amount of cold water, to mix with the incoming hot water to try to preserve the aromatic compounds. Some people don't like instant coffee, so they drink other coffee blends; the best way is to experiment.
  • Double shot of espresso into the mug, and steam the milk much like with a latte - but with a bit less foam. Pour over until shorter than a latte, but taller than a cortado.
