Kaffee ist unsere Leidenschaft. Wir suchen weltweit nach den besten Bohnen, achten auf nachhaltigen Anbau und pflegen den fairen Direkthandel mit Kaffeebauern und Kooperativen. Alle elbgold-Kaffees sind feinste Arabicas aus den besten Anbaugebieten der Welt.

In unserer Rösterei im Herzen der Hansestadt veredeln wir die Bohnen traditionell von Hand bei niedriger Temperatur und langer Röstzeit. Unsere Hamburger Edelbohnen gibt es SORTENREIN, als BLEND, ESPRESSO, RARITÄT und auch KOFFEINFREI in ganzen Bohnen oder auf Wunsch auch individuell gemahlen für Espressomaschinen, Herdkocher, Handfilter, Kaffeemaschinen oder Stempelkannen. In unseren Cafés am Mühlenkamp und in Eppendorf, sowie unserer Kaffeebar in der Schanze können alle Kaffeesorten auch probiert werden.

Wir verwenden für alle Getränke frische Landmilch von glücklichen Hamburger Kühen, auf Wunsch aber auch gerne Halbfett-, Soja- oder laktosefreie Milch. Dazu gibt es frisch zubereitete Ciabattas, Baguettes oder Bagels sowie köstliche Fruchttörtchen, Käsekuchen und Tarts. Aber natürlich auch Tee, Wein, Saft, Schokolade und vieles mehr, was glücklich macht.

Our exhibition in Shenzhen led to contacts from surrounding cities, which enabled us to show the “Handmade in Germany”-show at another station in Zhuhai over the turn of the year. This November „Handmade in Germany“ is bringing its exhibition of German design and handcrafted products to Shenzhen. The Chinese city, which is often described as a boomtown, is located in the province of Guangdong and is a significant pillar of the Chinese economy. To its south, Shenzhen directly borders on Hongkong.

Hong Kong - the name of the city "Fragrant Harbour" already tells of a special formulation: The Essence of counterparties located in the Pearl River Delta agarwood trees was used in religious ceremonies and as an ethereal fragrance for incense and medicinal recipes. elbgold is the gourmet coffee brand from Hamburg. In the specialty roasting house in the Schanze district, only the finest Arabica beans from the best growing areas in the world are traditionally processed by hand.

Founded in 2004, the company stands for the highest quality coffee. It lays emphasis on sustainable farming, maintains fair direct trade with coffee farmers and local cooperatives and supports unique coffee development projects such as the “Cup of Excellence”. About twenty different coffees make up the current range - from classic filter coffee or progressive, light roasted espresso to the directly traded and Cup of Excellence-awarded Huye Mountain coffee from Rwanda. With their success concept, the company’s management pair Annika Taschinski and Thomas Kliefoth, have already made a good name for themselves throughout Germany In addition to awards from the “Feinschmecker” (foodie) and publications such as the “Crema”, which awarded the company the title of “Germany’s best roaster” in 2009, Michelin-starred chefs, the gastronomy scene and food media all love the luxury brand from Hamburg.

6 Specialty Coffee Destinations in Hamburg, Germany

Last month there was the Easter long weekend and so, as planned, we flew to Hamburg to take advantage of the bank holiday and visit a new city to us. And hey, if there’s good coffee along the way, that’s even better.

I had a rough idea of a few coffee shops worth visiting in Hamburg (as shared on Coffee Vine) but boy, was I in for a treat! Before I go on and talk about the places we visited, there are 3 things that I noticed:

• (i) there are more and more people genuinely interested in specialty coffee, who are asking questions about the menu and the origins of the coffee. And you also have baristas on the other side of the counter who are more open to sharing the particularities of each blend, the roasting differences and the flavor notes one can notice when trying the coffee (floral, nutty, chocolaty, fruity etc.)
• (ii) given the geographical proximity, you see a few entrepreneurs of Nordic heritage setting up shop in Hamburg such as Nord Coast Coffee & Stockholm Espresso Club. You see the influence in the way coffee is roasted (i.e. lighter roasts available) but also in the design and the colors used to decorate the interiors.
• (iii) as much as I like larger spaces sometimes for meeting a group or having additional room to bring my laptop and get some work done, there’s something with smaller, simple and neatly arranged spaces that makes me appreciate them more. There’s this sense of camaraderie, of belonging to the same club where people come to enjoy some good coffee, and I had this particularly cozy feeling at Less Political and Public Coffee Roasters.

So, without further ado, these are the coffee places in Hamburg that we had the pleasure to visit during our 3 days there:

Nord Coast Coffee Roastery

Superb interior design, killer waffle and their Porto espresso blend was a blast. Although it’s pulled out of a mix 60% Arabica & 40% Robusta (considered of lower quality), the espresso had a delicious well balanced taste with notes of cocoa and orange.

Elbgold Kaffee

Next day we visited Elbgold with its great spacious venue. The flat whites were too drowned in milk for my taste, however I loved the espresso made out of their 9bar blend (Brazil, Costa Rica, India & Sumatra). It’s actually the best espresso I’ve had during my trip to Hamburg.

Less Political

Next up (actually within walking distance from Elbgold) was Less Political and a super proper flat white that I was looking for since the day before, kindly prepared with coffee from the Hamburg based roastery Quijote Kaffee, a blend of Brazil, Ecuador and Guatemala (my favorite!). A small neatly arranged place, ideal to just cozy up in a corner, read, sip coffee and hide for the rest of the day.

Stockholm Espresso Club

We finished our Sunday in style with a visit to Stockholm Espresso Club. While sipping a delicious Costa Rica filter coffee from Koppi Roasters, we had a fascinating chat with Georgio about coffee and how tweaking small details can influence the taste and flavor regardless of the brewing method. Great place, great experience, totally recommended!

Speicherstadt Kaffeerosterei

We kicked off our Monday with Speicherstadt roastery, not before we took a serious stroll around the warehouse district and Hafencity. We had a quick breakfast and two of their espressos. Although I did like the interior which resembles an old hidden factory, I found it a bit too touristy for my taste and overpriced compared with what it had to offer.

Public Coffee Roasters

Oh Public, you know how to impress… Our last stop of the day (and of our tour in Hamburg’s coffee scene for that matter) was at the guys from Public. I had a gorgeous flat white and after the first sip I could have bet they’d use Guatemalan coffee (which I absolutely love, mostly in blends!) and I giggled like a little boy when they confirmed my assumption: they used their own Starlight espresso blend of Brazil, Ethiopia and Guatemala.

I was pleasantly surprised by how neat, clean and simply organized the small place was, and in addition to that, how careful the barista was (in between the drinks) to make sure all things were in place e.g. clean tables, nicely arranged menus/brochures, coffee bags arrangement on the shelf etc. We spent around 1h in this quiet coffee oasis and we were honestly bummed out that we didn’t have time for another visit the next day, as we were leaving Hamburg that night.

And this basically brings us to the end of our coffee adventure in Hamburg. We had a great time hopping around the city and tasting some amazing coffees while having some nice chats with the baristas. It’s not an easy job and now with consumers getting additional awareness and knowledge about specialty coffee, the job of pouring the goodness of the coffee bean into a cup will become even more challenging.

If you find yourself in Hamburg and you only have time for just one cafe visit Stockholm Espresso Club. If luckily you have some more time, I’d suggest you visit Public Coffee Roasters and Less Political as well, you’ll not regret.

Sortenreine Kaffees sind vergleichbar mit Spitzenweinen erstklassiger Weingüter. Durch die individuelle Röstung der verschiedenen Sorten werden die speziellen Eigenschaften des jeweiligen Kaffees optimal unterstrichen. Bei rund 200 °C entwickeln sich innerhalb von 15-21 Minuten seine wunderbaren Geschmacksstoffe und Aromen.

Das Geheimnis eines guten Blends, also einer Mischung, sind die sorgsam ausgewählten und aufeinander abgestimmten Sorten. Alle elbgold-Blends bestehen aus feinsten Hochlandbohnen unterschiedlicher Herkunft.

Espresso steht für kulinarischen Genuss, ist der krönende Abschluss eines perfekten Abendessens oder die Basis für einen köstlichen Cappuccino oder Caffé Latte am Morgen.

Für unsere koffeinfreien Kaffees verwenden wir ausschließlich aromatische Arabicabohnen, die bereits vor der Röstung entkoffeiniert wurden. Koffein ist wasserlöslich und kann durch ein schonendes Aufbereitungsverfahren fast vollständig aus der Bohne gewaschen werden.

Raritäten sind absolut kostbare, sortenreine Kaffees. Sie sind einzigartig in ihrem Geschmack, handverlesen, meist sonnengetrocknet und von natürlicher Perfektion. Neben legendären Sorten wie Jamaika Blue Mountain oder Hawaii Kona zählen auch alle Cup of Excellence-Kaffees zu den edelsten Kaffees der Welt.

Hamburg und seine Buddelschiffe

Wer sich – wie meine Freundin Lauren aus Australien – das perfekte Frühstück so vorstellt: lecker Bagel und lecker Kaffee, der sollte auf jeden Fall ins elbgold gehen! Hier gibt es sehr leckere Bagels sowie außerordentlich guten Kaffee. (Von den Soufflés, Törtchen und Tartes fang ich lieber gar nicht erst an…)

Das Ambiente ist gemütlich-schlicht. Der vordere, sehr beliebte Teil am großen Fenster bietet als Sitzgelegenheit Barhocker und Tresen; der hintere Teil ist mit Korbstühlen und kleinen Tischen ausgestattet.

Da der Kaffee hier direkt vor Ort geröstet wird und das elbgold auch seinen eigenen Kaffee verkauft, sind als Deko so einige Kaffeesäcke verwendet worden (z.B. als Bezug für die Sitzkissen :).
