Coffee Art® – Creating art out of a cup of coffee

The Coffee Artists™ are Angel Sarkela-Saur and Andrew Saur, and they have been painting with coffee for over a decade which they call Coffee Art®. Together, they developed a process and technique of painting with coffee. People have been using coffee as washes for sketches and other shading for some time, but this revolutionary process used to gain very dark hues is groundbreaking. The Coffee Artists™ take pride in their creations. They concentrate on creating fine art and the communication of their works using this new medium.

As a creative team, they have reinvented coffee as a painting medium – it’s not just an added gimmick, but rather a full-fledged commitment to a complete exploration of the medium’s potential. Coffee Art® has grown into a comprehensive and professional studio practice shaped by their combined talents. Along the way, Coffee Art® has garnered critical and popular acclaim, generating interest from a wide range of sources, and generating international invitations to show and discuss their work.

Their Coffee Art® has received global attention and has attracted a strong following. The Coffee Artists™ have been featured in multiple news stories, documentaries and have been profiled on the Food Network’s “Unwrapped.” In addition to their media exposure, the Coffee Artists™ have exhibited work most recently in Milan and Athens, across the United States, Europe, and the United States Embassies in Malawi, Africa and Bogotá, Colombia.

Along with creating their Coffee Art® paintings, they have produced animations of their paintings. On the animations page of this site, their Coffee Art® paintings come to life in short film format.

The Coffee Artists™ invite you to peruse their online gallery for a more complete understanding of their works and to learn more about them.

So, pour yourself a cup of coffee, sit back, and enjoy their website.

Miroirs › Traditions culinaires

What do you do in the eight hours between lunch and dinner to stave off hunger pangs? The answer is you have afternoon tea, that quintessentially British meal consisting of tea, sandwiches, cakes and scones.

Around 1840, Anna, the Seventh Duchess of Bedford, in order to stop her aristocratic stomach grumbling ordered tea with bread and butter mid afternoon and started a fashion which has become a tradition in British life.

There may be few people who serve the full afternoon tea at home these days but the meal is alive and well in hotels and tea shops up and down the land. The UK Tea Council give out awards for a good afternoon tea and this year’s winner of the London Tea Place Award is Brown’s Hotel where you can expect to pay from £35.00 per head for a traditional afternoon tea. You can pay a little more at the Ritz while also indulging yourself in ways which might surprise the Duchess with a Champagne or chocolate tea! However, as with all good traditions there are rules and in the case of many top tea rooms formal dress is required.

It might be interesting to know whether these establishments are as strict about the way in which the tea itself is served. There is a long running debate in the UK about whether the milk should go in to the cup before the tea or afterwards. The Duchess favoured the former in order to protect her fine china but strong views are held on both sides: George Orwell argued vehemently for the latter in an essay titled ‘A Nice Cup of Tea’ in 1946. Recent scientific research suggests that from the point of view of taste the Duchess was right and Orwell wrong and as she is credited with starting the afternoon tea tradition and this year has had a blend of tea named after her perhaps she should have the last word.

¿A qué hora?

50 Inspirational Cafe & Coffee Logos

I love coffee. It’s a source of inspiration in every part of my life. That’s why I’ve trawled through the web to find you these 50 inspirational cafe and coffee-related logos. You probably won’t be surprised to find that most of these cafe logos use earthy tones like red, black and the brown of a roasted coffee bean, or that the shape of the coffee bean and coffee cup are recurring motifs.

Go get yourself a cup of coffee and enjoy these logos from the world of coffee! Need a logo right now? Try Logaster – logo generator service.

Conclusion

I mentioned earlier that café and coffee logos share much in the way of form, but in my research I realized that where they differ is in the feelings they evoke in the viewer. Designers can use the same motifs — the ever-present coffee cup or bean — to convey an air of seriousness and attention to tradition for the coffee connoisseur to fun and lighthearted for the younger coffee-drinking crowd.

Wow these logos are great! I love the Crush Coffee logo.

I am impressed with what good logo designers can do. As a code I like a lot “Coffee’n’code”.

Really enjoyed these, thanks. I swear I could smell coffee the whole time I was looking at them! Especially liked Cyber Cafe, but with computer monitors getting thinner and thinner, their “cup” risks looking a bit out of date! Thanks again.

Beginners’ German: Food and drink

This is a picture of a breakfast table with typical German breakfast foods. Look at the image and write down the numbers of the items listed below to match the picture. You should write the answers to this and other written activities off-line, e.g. using a notepad or word processor.

Skills: Memorising nouns with pictures

A useful strategy for memorising nouns is to learn the words in connection with pictures until you can cover the words and name each of the items with its correct article using just the picture.

Language: Using der , die , das and ein , eine

In the first activity you came across some of the German articles der , die , das (the). Here is how they work:

These articles identify the grammatical gender of a noun. All German nouns have a grammatical gender. They are either masculine, feminine or neuter. Sometimes the gender is predictable, for example the word for man, Mann , is masculine and the word for woman, Frau , is feminine. But this is not true for a lot of nouns. They just happen to be either masculine or feminine or neuter. The article for each gender is different. The German for ‘the’ can be either der , die or das depending on the gender of the noun. Similarly, the German for ‘a/an’ can be ein or eine depending on the gender.

You can also see that all German nouns begin with a capital letter. Note that you may come across articles other than the ones above.

Now listen to three people talking about what they usually eat ( essen ) and drink ( trinken ) for breakfast (Frühstück). Don’t reach for the dictionary yet – see how much you can understand first. Then write down which items each person says they have for breakfast.

Transcript: Audio 1

Table 2

Culture: Traditional German breakfast foods

Did you notice that none of the interviewees in the audio clip mentioned a cup of tea? Although the couple pictured here are drinking tea, coffee is much more popular at breakfast time. Slices of cold meat or slicing sausage ( Aufschnitt, Wurst ), ham ( Schinken ) and cheese ( Käse ) are also very common breakfast foods, as well as hard-boiled eggs ( gekochte Eier ) and Marmelade , which is not just marmalade ( Orangenmarmelade ) but any kind of jam.

Language: Personal pronouns

Here is a list of German pronouns.

Note that sie with a small ‘s’ means ‘she’ and also ‘they’. Sie with a capital ‘S’ means ‘you’. There are several ways of saying ‘you’ in German ( du , ihr and Sie ) but Sie is the most useful for talking to German-speaking people when you meet them.

Language: The verbs essen and trinken

Here is the present tense of the irregular verb essen (to eat) and the regular verb trinken (to drink). You will see that the ending of the verb changes depending on whether it follows ich , du etc. Only the second and third person singular ( du and er/sie/es ) forms of essen are irregular, with a change in the vowel sound.

Listen to five recorded questions about what various people have for breakfast, and answer according to the picture prompts below, replacing the person’s name each time with the appropriate personal pronoun. You may want to use the transcript to help you.

You hear: Was isst Sara zum Frühstück?

You say: Sie isst Brötchen.

You hear: Sie isst Brötchen.

***Change in TOU*** regarding using general images for scrapbook kits. You MAY use the images I offer in scrapbook kits You can use up to 8 images in a kit as elements for commercial use and up to 3 images in kits for share or free. This is to avoid the mass redistribution by loading up a bunch of images in a kit with a paper or two and offering it for download for free. As always, you can use the images to create quick pages, papers, frames, tags, templates, candy wrappers or signatures without restriction.

You MAY NOT pass them through "tube groups". I find the tube groups have few morals and it is only a matter of time until I am accused of stealing my own work that has been claimed by another if they are passed through the groups. If you wish to send a link to my site through the groups that is fine.

Still unsure? You can find a more detailed explanation here:
