You'll find an eclectic programme of events at this curious venue of both the arts and hedonism. Poetry readings, film screening and live music all feature as well as the infamous bi-monthly Russian Disco (www.russendisko.de). For those arriving on a regular club night, you're likely to find a smoky den of inequity full of drunk studenty types dancing to anything from ambient jazz to German punk. The decor is best left unmentioned - but if pressed let's call it 'kitsch'. Whether you have a good time here or not may depend heavily on how drunk you get.

best club in the world

we arrived here midnight on monday, there was only 5 people but it soon filled out with people all foriegn young student types the locals were very strange men watching the young foreign girls drink and dance, i obviously was a bit bored to notice all the goings on, we just had a few drinks and set off at 2:30am as the music was shit just a mash up of everything, the interior was just like an old spit n sawdust pub and thats that!

Great fun, the poeple are so friendly, everybody talks to you, you should not dress in smart clothes for this venue though

Crazy pub! - I love it. My friends and I left around seven in the morning after being here about five hours. In the beginning I was negative against the style, but after a few minutes I was thrilled. I just live that you can be yourself in this bar, nomatter who you are.

this is a wickid club, i loved it! its quite small but very packd. wotch out you dont go when its poetry or short storey reading if your looking for a dance. but overall good fun and very energetic! allso one of the few witch is still lively not just at the weekend

we rocked up here late after a bit of bar crawl. Probably not the best club in Berlin but definitely can have a good time here and still packed when we left at around 5ish in the morning

Mitte, Berlin –

It’s not a café and no burgers are served, but once past the name it’s easy to see why Kaffee Burger is a mainstay of East Berlin nightlife.

This large bar and club gained fame in the early 2000’s when it was featured in Wladimir Kaminer’s book Russian Disco – which subsequently inspired the club’s wild, renowned Russendisko parties.

To this day, Kaffee Burger’s mix of ska, dance, folk, and rock music draws a boisterous crowd of Eastern European expats, but the club’s general popularity also attracts a larger international set looking for an authentic taste of Berlin and a rowdy place to drink.

The diversity of the music and patrons is reflected in the rather hodgepodge dГ©cor, which features 70s brown floral wallpaper and a dance floor bathed in a deep red glow in one room, and a 1950s diner motif complete with swiveling counter stools and a circular sea-foam green bar in the other room.

Somehow, though, the unique jumble of people, music, and atmosphere comes together perfectly at Kaffee Burger, especially on the weekends when patrons are known to create large, infectious dance circles that swirl energetically through the crowd.

Tip from Emma:

You’ve got to try the famous Russendisko night at least once. It happens on the last Saturday of every month and features dance beats mixed with traditional Russian music – it’s bizarre and amazing and draws a huge crowd!

Varied roster of DJs, poetry readings, and live bands. Frequent theme nights include Russendisko, which features dance remixes of traditional Russian music, Karrera Klub with indie pop disco, and Soul Pistols with soul, funk, and 60s music.

A place to come late for great music a drinks. Better check their site for program. Each night a different sound. People start arriving after midnight. Usually coming from other bars. Party people.

I came here on a Tuesday night. When I entered, I was instantly charged a cover fee, which was fine except for the fact that my boyfriend and I were the only people charged for the rest of the night. The drinks were a little pricey, but strong. The bartender spoke perfect English, yet was rude to me and my boyfriend. The dj was alright, yet there were only two people dancing on the dance floor the entire time. This was not the fun, up-beat nightlife I expected from Berlin.

I only came here once, for Russendisko. It was full of people dancing and animations on tv. The drinks were okay, but not great.

I didn't eat anything. A lot of people were smoking.

good times, cheap drinks, fun music, good dancing/party atmosphere. Also good if you're on the pull; but if you're a single woman and not looking to go home with anybody, you might want to change your mind and bring a friend with you, either that, or get good at telling random dudes to piss off.

The bar staff and door guys are always chill and respectful. There is also a cloakroom here that is pretty cheap, 50 cents or a euro or so, and you can go and get stuff out of your bag if you like without any attitude from the attendant.

People are generally in a nice mood and happy here, you don't have to be a star to grace the dance floor, which is usually filled with people of all ages and walks of life. A really fun way to spend an evening; no one thinks they're too cool for school hereit's all about having fun and living in the moment.

Immer gerne wieder, I love the Kaffee Burger.

Kaffee Burger consists of two parts, the bar area and the dance area, both of which are both enjoyable. The bar area is littered with rounded booths and lows tables complimented by a simple cockatil menu. The dance area has shattered black and white tiles, scattered tables and an old style bar with plenty of service.

Great club to have a good night. Things don't really get going until after mid night but great fun when they do. The music is generally varied. The staff can b a bit rude they wouldn't give me another beer because I didn't bring up. More

A East German bar that has survived the gentrification which has swept accros the area, Kaffee Burger is an anachronistic gem. Still proudly displaying drink prices from the GDR era, old signs and wall paper that must be older than the Reichstag, Kaffee Burger has. More

Island. The central location makes this one of the

city's most expensive places to live. It is here the

oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence

of some significant transformations, as well. The

gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets

between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given

designer clothes, the newest food trends and

frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers

have taken up residence in what used to be backyard

barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old

days, however. The occasional housing complex is a

reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look

carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the

art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can

still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.

Walking in and you are immediately.

Walking in and you are immediately struck by the fact that your in a disco style pub with red neon lighting,glitter ball,flashing lights and a small dance floor.

We had got here on opening time so we were amongst the first in and more or less had the place to ourselves.

After a quick study of the beer's on offer we decided to have bottles of Astra beer and this famous beer from Hamburg was served iced cold and we just chilled out and planned out the rest of the night ahead in this vibrant city while enjoying our delicious beer's.

The music played here was superb ranging from songs from the 90's up to present day.

We really enjoyed our beer's in here before we moved on but we had a great time.

Kaffe Burger is really easy to locate by jumping the Ubahn U2 or the tram M5 or M8 to stop Rosa Luxembourg Platz were you will find this pub on Torstraße.

Why locals love it?

Kaffee Burger is one of the last remainders of Mitte district´s heyday times after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The underground scene has moved elsewhere since but Kaffee Burger is still a place to pass an enjoyable evening.

Why you should visit it

Small venue, an international, not-too-hip crowd and ska/balkan music. If you don´t mind any of those things Kaffee Burger could be worth a visit for you. Another plus (especially in this area of the city) are the affordable prices.

Special tip

"Russendisko" events held by Russian-Berlin pop author and DJ Wladimir Kaminer have made a great part of the place´s reputation.

The restaurant site Torstraße 60 has been in existence since 1890 and in the 1970s the Burger became a trendy pub. From 1976 onwards, it was also a meeting place for political dissidents and emigrants. In 1999 an operator-trinity took over the premises. After a short change of the counter, the dance business Kaffee Burger opened on November 10,1999 under the motto “Prenzlauer Berg now also in Mitte”. The bear has been quilting ever since. The rest is moral history – which drags on. Later the new premises were added: Burger Bar was opened. Every day readings or live concerts. DJs from 23.00.

The coffee burger lives of course from its Russian disco reputation. But a Wladimir Kaminer as co-owner is also a real gem in terms of symphatic support. The entrance is still in the frame, the ambience as in the 50s; curse and blessing at the same time. Sometimes dismissing Kaffee Burger as a “tourist club” doesn’t do him justice, because tourists don’t notice anything negative here, and the atmosphere is definitely more relaxed than in some scene clubs.
